Emily with unpainted Lion

Gloucestershire Managed Services (GMS) is delighted to introduce Emily Calvert as the artist behind its sponsored lion for Lions at Large, the exciting public art trail coming to Cheltenham and Gloucester this summer!

Following an inspiring selection event, GMS chose Emily for her creative vision and artistic expertise. Over the coming months, she will be bringing her design to life, ready to be unveiled when the trail launches. While details of the design must remain under wraps until then, we’re excited to follow Emily’s journey and celebrate this incredible collaboration.

“We were drawn to Emily’s design because of its unique design and artistic vision,” said Peta Fry, Associate Director of HR, OD and Communications. “Emily’s work beautifully reflects aspects of GMS, and we’re excited to see her design come to life over the coming weeks. We look forward to working with her and sharing the journey with our staff and the wider community.”

Lions at Large is organised by the Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity and will feature over 30 large lion sculptures alongside smaller ‘little lions’ decorated by schools and community groups. The initiative aims to raise important funds for new cancer facilities in Cheltenham, ensuring improved care for thousands of patients across Gloucestershire.

Karen Organ, Partnership Manager at Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity, added: “It’s fantastic to have GMS involved in Lions at Large. By sponsoring a lion and working with an artist like Emily, they are not only supporting cancer care but also celebrating creativity and community engagement. We can’t wait to see the final piece unveiled as part of the trail.”
