Gloucestershire Managed Services (GMS) is proud to announce the successful completion of several key capital projects, enhancing facilities and services at Cheltenham General Hospital (CGH) and Gloucestershire Royal Hospital (GRH). These investments underscore our commitment to providing the best possible care for patients while supporting staff with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.

ED CT Scanner Project Completed at GRH

In January 2025, the Emergency Department (ED) at GRH went live with a new CT scanner. This incredible milestone was achieved, thanks to the dedication and hard work of our Capital team and fantastic collaboration with the Radiology department. This advanced imaging system will significantly improve diagnostic capabilities, enabling faster and more accurate decision-making for emergency cases. The scanner’s state-of-the-art technology enhances patient outcomes and reinforces GRH’s position as a leading provider of acute care in the region.

Modernising Radiology at CGH

Progress continues in the radiology department at CGH with the successful removal of a 12-year-old GE Signa MRI scanner managed by the Capital Team. The space will soon be home to a new GE Signa Voyager MRI, expected to arrive in late March. The upgraded MRI system will provide improved imaging quality and faster scan times, benefiting both patients and clinical teams.

Additionally, the first phase of the Imaged Guided Interventional Surgery (IGIS) project at CGH provided two dedicated Interventional Radiology (IR) labs. Purpose-built for complex IR cases, these facilities are already delivering exceptional care to patients. In October 2024 the second phase of IGIS, at GRH, was completed and handed back to the Trust by the Capital Team. This included two IR Labs and three Cath Labs as well as a Cardiology and Interventional Radiology Day Case Unit and other associated support facilities.

Transforming Radiotherapy Services

The Capital Team worked tirelessly with the Radiotherapy department to successfully install a new linear accelerator. This cutting-edge equipment strengthens the hospitals capacity to deliver highly precise cancer treatments, providing a vital lifeline to patients in Gloucestershire and beyond.

Looking Ahead

These developments are part of our wider vision to deliver outstanding facilities management services to Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust through continuous investment in facilities, technology, and sustainability. We remain dedicated to working collaboratively with our client, staff, patients, and partners to build a healthier future for Gloucestershire.
