GMS Roaring with Pride as Hive Majesty is Revealed to the Public

Gloucestershire Managed Services (GMS) is thrilled to unveil Hive Majesty, its sponsored sculpture on the Lions at Large trail, which officially launched today, Friday 11 July.

Painted by the incredibly talented local artist Emily Calvert, Hive Majesty was chosen by the GMS team for its striking design and meaningful symbolism. The intricate bees featured throughout the sculpture represent our colleagues – the vital ‘worker bees’ behind the scenes, supporting hospital operations across our sites every day.

The hive design also ties into our wider commitment to sustainability. Across our hospital sites, we’ve introduced bee houses, bug hotels and wildflower planting projects to support biodiversity and create a more environmentally responsible healthcare environment – all echoed beautifully in Hive Majesty’s design.

The Lions at Large trail features over 30 magnificent lion sculptures, each uniquely designed and painted by local artists to celebrate Gloucestershire’s heritage culture, and diversity. The trail also includes dozens of smaller ‘little lions’ created by local schools and community groups, forming a world-class, free public art experience across Cheltenham and Gloucester.

Organised by Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity, the trail aims to raise vital funds for new cancer care facilities in Cheltenham, helping to transform treatment and support for thousands of patients across the county.

Visitors can download the official Lions at Large app to follow the trail, unlock fun rewards, and track their steps. Those who discover Hive Majesty on their journey will receive a special digital reward via the app.
