Gloucestershire Managed Services (GMS) has today (3 November) launched its Green Plan alongside Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Plan details the actions the organisations will take to reduce the impact that climate change will have on the people of Gloucestershire and to realise the NHS’s ambition to be carbon neutral by 2040.
The launch couldn’t be more timely and comes as the world leaders meet in Glasgow for the UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26).
The links between human health, climate change and biodiversity loss are clear and we have a responsibility to take action. In December 2019 Gloucestershire Hospitals was one of the first NHS organisations to declare a Climate Emergency and both organisations are committed to doing everything they can to address this for the benefit of its patients, colleagues and communities.
The Green Plan covers all aspects of sustainability including:
- adaptation to climate change
- travel
- green space
- new models of healthcare
- improvements to infrastructure
