Gloucestershire Managed Services (GMS) Estates has begun a large-scale programme of resurfacing works and zebra crossing upgrades across the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital (GRH) site. The improvements form part of ongoing efforts to ensure that pedestrian and vehicular routes across the campus remain safe, accessible and fit for purpose.

The programme includes the resurfacing of defective roads and footpaths as well as the replacement of zebra crossings. These enhancements will help reduce slip, trip and fall risks caused by uneven or deteriorated surfaces and will improve overall site safety for patients, staff and visitors. Improved road conditions will also help prevent damage to vehicles travelling through the hospital grounds.

Mark Johnston Wood, Director of Estates and Facilities, said:

“Our estates team is working incredibly hard to deliver improvements that will make a real difference to everyone who uses the GRH site. Maintaining a safe and accessible environment is essential in a busy hospital setting and this programme reflects our commitment to investing in the infrastructure that supports high quality patient care. I want to thank our teams for their professionalism and dedication as they carry out these essential works.”

Jamie Lavis, Trust Portfolio Director, said:

“This programme represents a significant investment in creating a safer and more accessible hospital environment. The resurfacing work will not only enhance the experience for patients and visitors but will also support staff who rely on safe, clearly marked routes to carry out their roles effectively. I am incredibly proud of the collaboration between GMS and the Trust, and of the hard work of our Estates team whose commitment ensures these essential improvements are delivered to a high standard.”

The works will be carried out in phases to minimise disruption, with clear signage and alternative routes provided where necessary. GMS is encouraging all site users to allow extra time for travel and to follow any temporary access arrangements in place.
