Hive Majesty Roars to Success at Lions at Large Auction

Last night (Thursday 9 October), the magnificent surroundings of Gloucester Cathedral played host to the Lions at Large Auction – the grand finale of the summer sculpture trail that captivated communities across Gloucester and Cheltenham.

The event saw 32 large lion sculptures and 3 small cubs go under the hammer, each one lovingly designed by local artists and organisations to raise funds for a vital cause. Among the standout stars of the evening was Hive Majesty, the lion sponsored by Gloucestershire Managed Services (GMS), which sold for an incredible £12,000 – one of the highest bids of the night.

Hive Majesty was brought to life by the talented artist Emily Calvert, whose vibrant and intricate design captured the imagination of trail-goers and bidders alike.

In total, the auction raised a phenomenal £220,000, contributing to a staggering £370,000 raised throughout the entire Lions at Large campaign. All proceeds will go towards Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity’s Big Space Cancer Appeal, helping to fund a new cancer care centre in Gloucestershire – a space designed to offer comfort, dignity, and hope to patients and families across the region.
